Guerilla Warfare in Entropy 2099
How do you do guerilla warfare in Entropy 2099? Here's a comprehensive guide for you, hope you enjoy reading it!

It’s time to practice guerilla warfare in Entropy 2099.

You might be facing a player who has bought an optimized lineup. There may be a moment when you don’t have a good lineup and still you want to contribute to the team. There might be a time when you are only few, yet you really want to dish out the pain train to your opponents.

While many players frown on this practice, it’s a valid tactic that has been used throughout human history with life-changing and devastating results.

What is guerilla warfare?

Simply put, you don’t fight them in front of the battlefield. You maim, kill, and gouge their eyes when no one is watching. You cut their tongues, flay their skin, and prick them with a thousand needles until they bleed to their inevitable demise.

As Jago Sevatarion said in Warhammer 40K:

If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we’d overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and bleach their skulls to hang from our armour, until none remained. But that isn’t the quick execution the Emperor needs, is it? – We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The Wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always!

The main goals of guerilla warfare, from a strategic sense, are as follows:

  1. Destroy enemy troops
  2. Give time for your alliance to deploy and build up
  3. Wear them down mentally and psychologically
  4. Gain an advantage on the battlefield during the actual battle

What is required to be a guerilla?

You got to have the following:

  • A decent lineup that could cause reliable damage in field PVP
  • Lots of troops
  • Lots of chutzpah
  • Lots of time (especially in very long-range walks)
  • Access to supply fields (useful for preventing that annoying 20-50 percent debuff on damage and movement)

Take note that not everyone in the alliance should do it. At most, a dedicated team of five to ten players should do it at a time – you still need people to hold the line when needed!

How do I do guerilla warfare in Entropy 2099?

Attack players who are AFK, hunting Behemoths and Grod, and active players who are weaker than you and/or easy to kill. Take note: Don’t do this if there’s an agreement, do it only when it’s a no-holds-barred war; after all, you don’t want to suck out the fun in the game.

On the other hand, an argument could be made about total war being about protection of your rear lines and logistics – and unless anyone forgets, Entropy 2099 is supposed to be a war game, so yeah, your mileage may indeed vary.

Alternatively, strike deep into enemy territory and intercept them on their way (or strike them in the rear where possible).

Make sure you attack when the majority of the other players are offline and/or you could handle whoever’s coming to take your head. You can also do it in a war though, but make sure you know what you’re doing to avoid losing troops unnecessarily!

Tactics, techniques, and procedures

  1. Long-range strikes (Thunder Run)

Once you have decided on your target and placed the necessary supply fields, walk there,  kill them quickly, wreak havoc, and destroy as many players as you can. It may take 10, 20, or even 30 minutes to do so; it doesn’t matter. What matters is that it brings the message to the enemy: You are not safe at home.

Having one to three players do the task is ideal. Any more than that, and the eagle-eyed enemy player would notice and sound the alarm.

  1. Bait and kill

If the enemy blob is right next to yours and you know that they’re all AFK, use their aggro to pull them to your side and kill them off one by one.

While the baiting and pulling would take some time, in addition to the one to two minutes you need to destroy a player, you would be guaranteed to get a lot of trophies along the way.

  1. Bait and trap

It’s the same as number 2, but with two to ten allied players waiting on the side. This becomes a quick slaughter, with the added benefit of having your friends getting trophies too (and losing less troops in the process!)

  1. Lightning Hammer

If there are enemies near an allied teleport point (or if you did number 3 and are feeling adventurous), then go to the next enemy group and liquidate them all. Trust me, your opponents won’t even notice that their lineups have burnt down to the ground!

  1. Decapitation strikes

Kill the leaders repeatedly, and you’ll get into their heads. Another version of number 4.

What is the metric of success in this fight?

Since the goals are:

  1. Disrupting their deployment by depleting their reserves
  2. Forcing them to deploy in a piecemeal manner
  3. Breaking their rhythm
  4. Making their life in the game miserable

It’s pretty easy to put a quantifiable metric on this one.

If the player gets at least twice the troops (2.0 KDR and above) in terms of troops killed within a 30-minute period, then one can consider the adventure to be a successful affair.

What is the caveat for guerilla warfare in Entropy 2099?

Guerilla tactics won’t work if the enemy knows the signs and could identify a potential guerilla attack. When they’re alert, they could send troops to stop you; however, if your lineup is optimized for field PVP, they could still be in for a nasty surprise.

Counters?

As mentioned above:

  • Be alert and raise the alarm: Watch for unusual enemy movement on the map. Once you identify it as a possible guerilla attack, call it on the alliance chat. This will give time for players to teleport their troops back to base and/or prepare a trap.
  • Counterinsurgency: If you know where the enemy would strike, place a teleport next to the target area and wait for them to strike. Afterward, you can teleport and join the fun!
  • Identify the strike team: Typically, the strike teams of each alliance are pretty much the same; you can take the hit once or twice to ID all of them. Take note of their names and movements – if you see them doing something out of the ordinary, you know what to do!

Conclusions

Guerilla warfare is a valid way to wage war in this game. After all, it’s a part of the tactical toolbox that all commanders should master in this game.
